Frequently Asked Drywall Company Questions - Answered By Celtic Drywall Systems

What is Drywall and Why is It Used?

Drywall is made of a sheet of gypsum covered on both sides with a paper facing and a paperboard backing. Drywall is used in interior walls of houses and buildings and to wrap columns to conceal steel beams and is an easy and inexpensive way to top off masonry walls above ceilings. Drywall is also used to add fire resistance to walls and ceilings, containing the spread of fire so people can evacuate safely during an emergency. It takes a lot of energy for fires to burn through the drywall.

What Is Blue Board And How Is It Different From Drywall?

Blue board drywall is also known as plaster baseboard. Blue board is used for veneer plastering, and the surface paper has special absorption qualities. It has a high water and mold resistance and there are fewer steps involved in veneer plastering. Blue board drywall is not made for mud, tape, or paint. It works extremely well in bathrooms or places with a lot of moisture and helps reduce noise. Contact us today if you are interested in blue board installation.

Can I Install Drywall Myself?

If you are familiar with drywall work, and you feel comfortable taking on a project, it is possible to hang and finish drywall yourself. However, it is recommended to stick to small projects, like patching holes, and leave the larger projects to a trained team of professionals. When it comes to increasing the value of your home, you want to be sure every precaution is taken when installing new drywall. For this reason, it's often best to leave the job in the hands of a professional drywall company.

Should I Repair Or Replace My Damaged Drywall?

It depends. A small crack or minor damage like "nail pops" -- meaning nail heads that have pulled away from the wall studs and are popping through the drywall -- is fast and simple to repair. In the case of a large hole or a serious problem like heavy mold infestation, where the spores may have spread throughout the drywall, replacement is usually the best option.
